The Media Effect- In Conclusion

Do racial stereotypes effect you?
There are a few factors that determine how one interprets racial stereotypes in the media. Those who are socialized to believe everything that they hear are more likely to accept stereotypes as truth, not matter how crazy they made be. Then there are those who have media literacy skills yet they accept myth for truth. Lastly, we have those who have been socialized with media literacy skills are able to decipher truth from myth and not fall into a state of automaticity. As human beings, we are prone to taking stereotypical images and analyzing them. On one end of the spectrum, you have those who are not media literate and automatically accept messages that are not true. Then you have those are media literate and know how how to distinguish fact from truth.

I do not agree with racial stereotyping in the media but I also support the First Amendment.
Is it possible that racial stereotypes in the media can actually be a positive thing?
The stereotypes themselves are not positive but the fact that they exist are. We can learn from past and remember what is acceptable and what is not. Racial stereotypes came about as a way to harm groups just because they are different. Although times continue to change, I do not believe that we will every be a stereotype-free world. But if we all strive to be media literate, these hurtful images will only be a catalyst to defy the stereotypes.
